Treml.com F A Q

Home Many people have asked how this website works and how can they contribute to it, so here is a short FAQ session.....Please feel free to ask any questions.

Q: When can I submit my family information.
A: You may submit the information right now.

Q: How should you go about submitting a family tree?
A: There are many ways to catalog this data, but for the time being it will limited to 4 different formats, *.GED (GEDCOM format), *.FTW (Family Tree Maker), *.DOC (MS Word) and *.HTM/*.HTML (Web Page File). You may submit the data via E-mail or by the Postal Service.

Q: Will treml.com host my family's web page? (Additional to the family tree, such as personal bios and interests.)
A: Yes, but with limitations.
  1. The person submitting the website must be directly related to a Treml. For example, a daughter of a Treml may have webspace for her web page, but her husbands brother would not be afforded the space.
  2. The web page must be 1.5 megs or less in size. (If it can be saved on a standard HD floppy, it can be submitted) If you would like to have more space than this for your web page, then there will be a small monthly fee of $5 per megabyte to cover my ISP's charges. (Hint, most services like AOL provides personal web space on their servers built into the monthly fee. If you need more space for your Treml.com web, just create link from it to your ISP's personal web page.)
  3. The contents of the web page must be of a nature that a young child could view it. No offensive or provocative material please. I hold the right to modify any submitted web to conform with this policy.
  4. No posting of copyrighted material in which you do not own the copyright.
  5. All submitted material becomes the property of my company, Saratoga Artisans. (This is for legal reasons. For example, it doesn't mean that your home photos now belong to my company, it just means that the scanned images that you send in will.) In the future we will have a general store that will sell books, videos and other items utilizing some or all of the web site's contents. This is not to say that your information will be sold back to you, but any item sold through this website will be sold to a family member at our cost. For example, we compile the data to make a family yearbook. The only cost to you for this item will be the cost of the book straight from the publishers, plus any shipping and handling charges. Now if a library, research firm or a book store would want to purchase copies of these items, they would be charged fair wholesale value for the item. Any proceeds of the sale of the material will go into maintaining this website.
  Q: Will this be a "pay-for-access" website?
A: No, this website is a gift from my family to yours. In the future we may sell advertising space and even have a area where we will sell items to support the website, but no money will be required to access the site.

Q: Will this site ever sell personal information such as home/E-mail addresses and phone numbers to marketing companies?
A: Never.

Again I want to thank everyone who has shown interest in this exciting new website, and I want everyone know how good it made me feel each time I received a E-mail from a previously unknown branch of the Treml family tree.

Let me restate the mission of the Treml.com website:

The mission of the this site is to provide a genealogical consortium and resource for the Treml family world wide. This will be a place to share family trees, search for long lost relatives and bring together the Tremls of the world as family by means of a public forum...

My wife Melissa and I are excited to be able to provide the Treml family such a service, and we hope that someday all of the family's branches will be linked to the same trunk.

Sincerely, John
