{"id":141,"date":"2016-09-06T19:12:56","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T00:12:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stonehouse.club\/?p=141"},"modified":"2017-08-21T06:19:00","modified_gmt":"2017-08-21T11:19:00","slug":"homestead-happenings-for-the-week-of-september-5-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/?p=141","title":{"rendered":"Homestead Happenings for the week of September 5, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you recall from my last post my goal was to post what&#8217;s happening in our little corner of suburbia on a weekly basis.\u00a0 Well, that plan was very quickly side tracked!\u00a0 Dutch&#8217;s recovery demanded more of John&#8217;s and my time than I anticipated and, of course, he has been our priority for the past 3 weeks.\u00a0 Thanks for understanding and I hope to get back on track with regular posts starting today.<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned, a great deal of our time has been spent caring for our boy, Dutch.\u00a0He&#8217;s coming along nicely, by the way!\u00a0We took him for his therapy consult just about 4 weeks ago.\u00a0\u00a0 He was very apprehensive at first but once Daddy showed (John met us at the vet&#8217;s office after work)\u00a0up he calmed right down.\u00a0 He allowed the physical therapist to do a laser treatment and passive range of motion exercises with no trouble. Although I will have to say that he was more than ready to go home after the appointment was finished.\u00a0 The PT showed us how to do the\u00a0passive range of motion\u00a0at home and gave us a list of additional exercises that we can start adding gradually.\u00a0 I call her every Friday to see which ones we can add in the next week.\u00a0 John and I are both grateful that she is so willing to talk us through the PT therefore allowing us to do it at home.\u00a0 He is more relaxed at home\u00a0and lets us do what we need to do and it keeps the expenses\u00a0down for us. \u00a0 Of course there are always special, yummy, treats involved.\u00a0\u00a0Besides the exercises we\u00a0need to take him for 10 minute leash walks 3-5 times a day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_128\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160811_134452.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-128\" src=\"http:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160811_134452-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"First day home from the hospital.\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160811_134452-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160811_134452-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160811_134452-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-128\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First day home from the hospital.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He goes back to the surgeon in about 4 weeks for his 8 week post-op x-rays.\u00a0 If they see significant healing on the films then it is possible that he will be allowed off leash and back to regular activity.\u00a0 We are praying for this to be the case.\u00a0 Otherwise it might mean another 4 weeks on leash.\u00a0 Poor boy, he&#8217;s doing really well but I know he&#8217;s getting a bit stir crazy.\u00a0 He so wants to be out there chasing rabbits and he\u00a0doesn&#8217;t understand why he can&#8217;t. \u00a0We have been able to get some homesteading jobs completed while caring for Dutch.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve done the past few weeks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I started harvesting and processing tomatoes.\u00a0 I only planted half the number of plants that I normally do and I turned out to be sorry for that decision. \u00a0We will get enough from our garden for spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce and salsa.\u00a0But, I had to purchase a half bushel of Roma&#8217;s from the local farmer for our tomato soup and pizza sauce.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2016-09-06-18.54.44-Tomatoes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-146\" src=\"http:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2016-09-06-18.54.44-Tomatoes-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"2016-09-06 18.54.44 Tomatoes\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2016-09-06-18.54.44-Tomatoes-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2016-09-06-18.54.44-Tomatoes-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/treml.com\/stonehouse\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2016-09-06-18.54.44-Tomatoes-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>So far we&#8217;ve canned 4 &amp;
